Mission

  • Build a finance function that protects cash, supports sales, keeps records audit-ready and gives management reliable numbers for decisions.

First 30 / 90 / 180 Days

30 days
  • Set up or clean up Zoho Books: chart of accounts, item list, tax settings, invoice templates and customer records.
  • Build the landed cost file and connect product costs to inventory valuation.
  • Create invoicing, receipt, supplier payment and bank reconciliation routines.
  • Prepare a statutory compliance calendar for URA, NSSF, payroll and other recurring obligations.
90 days
  • Produce the first full monthly management accounts: P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, debtors, creditors and inventory value.
  • Run weekly debtor follow-up with Sales and the Operations Manager.
  • Reconcile bank, mobile money and cash, customer receipts, supplier payments and inventory balances.
  • Support payroll and statutory filings with the external accountant.
180 days
  • Create investor-ready finance reporting with gross margin by SKU and customer profitability.
  • Support budgeting and cashflow planning for larger production runs and regional expansion.
  • Keep audit-ready files for imports, taxes, payroll, invoices and payments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Zoho Books: invoices, receipts, payments, journals, reconciliations and supporting documents.
  • Make sure every sale, purchase, payment and stock movement is properly documented.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and variance notes.
  • Track invoices, receipts, outstanding balances and debtor days, and support Sales with payment follow-up and statements.
  • Prepare cashflow forecasts and flag funding gaps early.
  • Maintain inventory valuation, landed cost and cost-per-SKU records, and reconcile stock movements with Inventory.
  • Support pricing decisions with gross margin analysis by SKU and customer segment.
  • Support URA, VAT, WHT, PAYE, NSSF and payroll compliance with management and external advisers.
  • Keep organised files, and recommend controls for approvals, cash handling, discounts, credit limits and supplier payments.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of accounting in an SME, FMCG, distribution, trading, inventory or import business.
  • CPA(U), ACCA or an equivalent qualification, completed or in progress.
  • Hands-on Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Tally or similar accounting software.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets, including landed cost and inventory schedules.
  • Familiarity with Uganda's tax and statutory processes, including VAT, WHT, PAYE and NSSF.
  • High integrity, accuracy and document discipline.

  • Setting up finance systems for a growing company.
  • Inventory valuation, stock reconciliation and SKU-level profitability.
  • Working with external auditors, tax advisers or investors.
